In order to find a movie like John Wick, you have to know what you are looking for. The genre of thrillers is vast and there are plenty of interesting plots out there. John Travolta and Laurence Fishburne are two actors that you can’t afford to miss. Their charisma and skill on screen will have you hanging on every word. You can also expect a great deal of action. The movie is not without its flaws, but if you can get past the first few minutes, it’ll be well worth your time.
Hardcore Henry
If you enjoy action movies, Hardcore Henry might be right up your alley. The main character is based on a video game, and the movie is based on the same formula. While Hardcore Henry does not play it smart, the movie does take video game sniper segments and escort missions and apply them to the movie world. The film is set in Russia, and takes full advantage of this fact. There are lots of gunfights, car chases, and fisticuffs.
Hardcore Henry has an unorthodox visual style, blurring traditional action thriller with video game elements. The movie is filmed in first-person, with the main character looking out from inside a cyborg’s perspective. Henry wakes up in a lab after a horrific audience, discovering advanced cybernetic upgrades. In addition, Hardcore Henry has no speech, which makes communication difficult. As he attempts to protect his wife from a psychopathic warlord, Hardcore Henry is surrounded by enemies.
Hardcore Henry has a similar action-drama style to John Wick. The action sequences are jaw-dropping, and the lead actor does an excellent job portraying the role. However, the movie’s plot was incredibly silly, and the title gives it all away. Nonetheless, it manages to maintain the title ‘Hardcore’ despite its ridiculous plot. And, although it’s no John Wick, Hardcore Henry is a great alternative for action fans.
As far as action films go, this is another one. Both Hardcore Henry and John Wick are directed by Ilya Naishuller. While John Wick is an obvious reference point, Hardcore Henry takes action experimentation a step further. The director, Ilya Naishuller, has refined his skills with music videos. Hardcore Henry is the better film, and I’m sure it will earn its title soon.
While John Wick isn’t an action-comedy, the movie is a good primer for the Wick universe. The movie illustrates the level of thought required for assassins to execute their mission, but it’s also a lesson in consequences for bad decisions. Hardcore Henry likes John Wick
Man of Tai Chi
If you loved John Wick and wanted to see a new action film, look no further than Man of Tai Chi. This new action film is based on a graphic novel and stars Keanu Reeves. It’s a Cold War era thriller that features stylized moments. Man of Tai Chi is also Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut, and it demonstrates that Reeves’s skills go beyond acting.
Director Keanu Reeves met stuntman Tiger Hu Chen while filming The Matrix. He used his knowledge of martial arts to direct Man of Tai Chi. He had previously worked on Out of Sight and The Matrix. He used ARRI ALEXA cameras and shot the movie over 105 days in China. The film has received positive reviews and has been released on Blu-ray and DVD.
While Man of Tai Chi isn’t quite as violent as John Wick, it’s still a compelling action flick. It features a deliveryman named Chen, who is seduced by the world of illegal prizefighting and ends up losing his soul and compassion. It’s a cautionary tale, and explores the tension between the East and the West and the notion of free will. The film also illustrates the pervasive surveillance that is becoming so prevalent in our society.
While the film pays homage to classic Chinese martial arts films, it also features a couple of interesting Reeves quirks. In the midst of all the fighting, Reeves shows his keen eye for production design and fight choreography. The movie is also similar to the Mortal Kombat movies from the 90’s. And, if you’ve seen John Wick, you’ll understand the similarities between the two movies.
If you’re a martial arts fan, you’ll probably love Man of Tai Chi. This action movie is a must-see for those who like Keanu Reeves. It’s available on Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, Disney+, and other streaming services. The martial arts scenes in Man of Tai Chi are particularly exciting. The action scenes are intense and tense. And it is all accompanied by a heartwarming soundtrack.
Equilibrium
If you’re a fan of action movies, then you’ve likely seen Equilibrium. This sci-fi action movie, set in the future, shows us a dystopian world where all emotions are outlawed. The state forces citizens to take psychoactive drugs known as Prozium II. To cope with his newfound emotions, John Preston becomes a cleric who punishes people who don’t take Prozium II. However, he also leads a revolution against the state and cuts someone’s face off vertically. If you’re a fan of John Wick, you’ll likely enjoy Equilibrium.
This sci-fi thriller features a dystopian future where a government agent named John Preston begins to see humans in his world. No Tears for the Dead
No Tears For The Dead is an action movie similar to John Wick that stars Chris Hemsworth, Sam Hargrave, Randeep Hooda, and Golshifteh Farahani. The plot revolves around a mercenary who works on the black market. This movie is well-made, but it isn’t a must-see for fans of the action genre.

A canis ex machina situation, if used well, can lead to some pretty emotional scenes. The plot of the movie is also rather unrealistic – the protagonist and the antagonist have little in common.
